“Agent-based models for exploring questions related to obesity: Examples from studying contextual influences on behaviors”

Dr. Auchincloss’s research focuses on social and environmental determinants of chronic health conditions. Her work has examined spatial risk factors within residential environments that influence health behaviors related to obesity and type 2 diabetes and the application of novel complex systems modeling that can be used to examine spatial and socio-economic patterning of health behaviors and outcomes. This presentation will discuss some work Dr. Auchincloss is doing using agent-based models to better understand how contexts influence health behaviors that relate to obesity.  It will provide important insight into when agent–based models can be used, how they are implemented, and the reporting of model results to a public health audience.
