Title: “System dynamics modeling of obesity: from individual weight dynamics to population energy gap”

Details: Dr. Hazhir Rahmandad is a dynamic modeling expert and an associate professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech. His research applies dynamic modeling to a broad range of problems in public health as well as management. In this seminar he will present a new system dynamics model of human growth and body weight dynamics covering birth to old ages and will compare that model against empirical trends and other simulation models. He will then demonstrate the use of such models for estimating the U.S. adult energy maintenance gap trends across different gender and ethnicity groups over the last four decades, showing significant variations across population groups and continued alarming trends among minorities.
